Wednesday Word of the Week: An Icelandic Phrase from the Wilderness

Introducing a new feature on Caravan of One: Wednesday Word of the Week! Every week, I will post an interesting word or phrase in a different language along with an accompanying photo from the place where that language is spoken.

Today’s Word of the Week comes to you from Iceland! It’s an Icelandic phrase that has it’s origins in the unforgiving landscape and harsh climate in which the language was born.

að verða útiphrase, Icelandic : literal meaning “to become outside”

means: die from exposure to the elements
